Bill participated in the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics and the 1936 Berlin Olympics. He finished 4th in 1932, and 7th in 1936. It is believed that 1936 was to be his best year. However, during the trip abroad he injured his shoulder and foiled his chances. From 1930-1936 Bill held the title of America's Strongest man and was at one time considered the strongest man in the world at his body weight. He started lifting weights with his brothers Harry & Walter at the age of 15, and 5 years later he won the AAU National Light-Heavy- Weight Championships. He went on to set more than 40 power lifting records. He was the first man to lift 350 lbs. over head, and to "continental and jerk" 400 lbs in 1936. During his career he was associated with the York Oil Burners and later York Barbell.He celebrated landmark birthdays lifting his 2150 lb barbell for each year he was born. These included his 70th, 75th, and 80th birthdays. This was a little hard for me to believe so the family provided photos and a newspaper article. The newspaper met with Bill when he was 71. According to the article at the age of 70 Bill lifted the 2150 lb barbell 100 times in less than an hour. After which he upped the weight by adding 2 bystanders to the bell making it a whopping 2510 lbs. He lifted this weight 4 times. I am including photo of bill and his 2150 lb barbell. Bill passed away on April 19th, 2007 at the age of 96.Good Brothers Stunt Weight Lifting Mouth Piece is in VERY GOOD to EXCELLENT condition. It meas. approx. 8 1/4" in total length, with the mouth piece meas. approx. 2 3/4" x 2" There is a plate on each side that matches the top & bottom of the users mouth. Made of leather, not much in the way of form fitting, it also has what appears to be twisted coat hanger or baling wire to attach it to the weight or stunt apparatus. Included is a copy of one of the stunt sheets that Harry had made. Payment Payment is due within 10 days of auctions end. I accept personal checks, money orders, cashier checks, and paypal.
