Up for auction here is a great looking old , antique , wood / wooden duck Folk Art Primitive Duck decoy. This decoy dates from what we believe to be circa 1900 to 1930. It is probably by one of the Illinois River School Carvers since it originally came from Central Illinois. We do not know what type of duck this is. It is hand carved and hand painted in blacks, whitish silver paint and reddish brown colors. The decoy measures 5 5/8 inches across by about 13 inches long by about 6 inches high. We don't see any branding , tagging or signature on this piece. The eyes appear to be painted wood pegs that have been inserted into the head. The head was carved separately and appears to be nailed to the body of the duck.. For condition the paint is quite rough and missing in several places. The bottom has the most losses to the paint, probably from use and water exposure over the years. There is chipping and wood loss on the bill, there are three thin cracks in the wood on the left side of the duck, The neck also is damaged. There is a crack that runs in a ring around the neck which is split and goes about 75% around. The neck is not completely broken. At the top of the head there looks like a wood chunk that has been roughly plugged but not overall too bad. There is also a very tiny wood chip on the tip on the right of the tail. This is a nice antique duck decoy that you will not run across very often. If you can determine a specific maker you might have a real treasure on your hands. With the increasing collectibility of these classics this could be worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars if you know your makers. Shipping is $15.00 in the lower 48 United States. Illinois residents please add 7.75% for state sales tax. Payment is due within 10 days of the auction's end or we reserve the right to sell this item to other interested parties.
